Belize boasts various ethnic groups as well as a large number of people from all corners of the world who have immigrated to this part of Latin American paradise. Some have chosen Belize and San Pedro as a retirement home, while others have found an opportunity for business. There are also a number of people who have moved here unselfishly, in the spirit of volunteering, to help improve the quality of life for all the residents.

Toni is an inspiration. Her career choice to work for the US Fish and Wildlife Service and share her passion with others is wonderful. Thank you Toni for what you do for the resource, and for sharing it with each person that you touch.

I like how they find silence while also being with other people. It seems sometimes that silence can only be accomplished when you are on your own, but I think this proves that you can be with people and also be silent. I think it's easy to forget that you don't have to talk or be noisy when you are with other people.

I really agree with what she has to say about kids today and how they have short attention spans, I wonder what could be done to reverse this trend so children would have more of an appreciation of the simple pleasures of nature?

There is a quote I found when in high school that has always resonated with me: "Within you there is a stillness and a sanctuary to which you can retreat at any time and be yourself." - Hermann Hesse. A walk in nature always helps me to connect to that still and quiet place within.

I try to take a quiet walk on the beach on the night of the full moon.

She made so much sense. Great interview.

It is amazing to me how the WOW moment for plugged-in kids today is 1 minute -- only 1 minute! -- of silence in nature. We need more of that time to unplug and connect with our surroundings.

I loved this segment!! My favorite 'silent place' is the forest preserve I steward in Lake County, IL. When my mind and body are quiet I can hear all the birds call to one another, the insects buzz, the leaves rustle above my head. It's a deep and satisfying experience, and if those observations lead to greater knowledge of the environment, that's a plus too.
