Meet the Characters

Steven Gamez

Steven Anthony Gamez was born on April 6, 1972 at the Nix Hospital on the Riverwalk of downtown San Antonio. His father Jose Salazar Gamez was born in Kyle, Texas and his mother Cruz Gloria Cevallos Gamez was born and raised in San Antonio. He is the third of four children, including his eldest sister Monica, older brother Jose and younger sister Erika. He graduated from John Jay High School in San Antonio in 1990 and soon joined the United States Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Pioneer MCM-9 Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship, and after the Navy used his military benefits (G.I. Bill) to attend Santa Fe Community College and eventually completed an Associates of Applied Science in semi-conductor manufacturing in 1997.

Steven began his official seminary training in August of 2000 at Holy Trinity Seminary in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from the University of Dallas in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Letters. He then moved back to San Antonio to begin my master’s degree studies at Assumption Seminary and Oblate School of Theology and graduated with a Masters of Divinity in May 2008.

Father Steven was ordained a priest May 17, 2008 at San Fernando Cathedral by the Most Reverend Jose Gomez. Father Steven believes that it is not by his power that he became a priest, but through the Grace of God and prayers of the faithful. Throughout his ministry he has found the happiness and joy that he longed for, and has said "I can truly say that I have found my calling in life, to serve God and God’s people." Father Steven Gamez is currently Administrator of St. Philip of Jesus Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas.
